Bueno Bike Lanzarote and MollyDoo Cycling have teamed up with one of Lanzarote’s most sought after training venues for sports people and athletes, Club Santa Rosa to bring you our six day all-inclusive road bike & pilates package.

Pilates originated back in the early 20th century and was introduced by “Joseph Pilates”, born in Germany. Originally more used as part of dance class routines, it’s now used by elite athletes as part of their core training, and more recently, cyclists and triathletes alike have seen the benefits from this Yoga like exercise.

So, you may wonder how do pro cyclist get in those aerodynamic positions and where do they get those extra watts of power from? Well it’s been proven that having a strong “core” body strength results in a more focused power and energy output. So, if you have a stronger core, then be sure that more of that power you generate when pushing hard down on those pedals, will be used to propel you forward and, yes, results in more speed and better climbing.

Also, if you have issues with your back, neck and upper body, then increasing the strength of your core will help support these issues.
Come and join us at our new winter Pilates and Cycling training camps in January and February 2017 and come away turbo charged ready for your spring and summer cycling!

2016 in numbers. Life of a bike tour guide Vol.5

What a year 2016 has been! While it’s done and dusted, there were many highlights to the year. Over 25% of my life (excluding an average of 8 hours sleep per day) was spent on the bike this year.

DSC07903

Total distance for the year 30,081km

Total climbing for the year 356,417m, it’s like climbing Mt.Blanc 74 times, it is 4,810m high and the highest peak in Europe.

Average speed (includes extreme MTB) 20.25kmh

Longest spin 500km with 4,910m of climbing

Most climbing in one spin 14,714m during 17 reps of Tabayesco over the course of 347km and over 16 hours of riding the bike.

KOM’s 13, but here are the one’s we’re most proud of

Top speed??? We’re not sure maybe 120kph but we had a lot of fun on this one with a top speed of 103kph Actually, here’s 3 youtube downhill videos from that very spin

Shortest spin 2km, we didn’t log all of the short ones…. but this one was just to catch up with friends and wish them a Merry Christmas 🙂

Another climb ticked off the to do list :)

Happy New Year everybody, hoping you all have an even better 2017!

Stay posted for our New Year Resolutions, it’s going to get a lot more interesting…….

Is there a case for sports events that allow you to dope? Life of a bike tour guide Vol.4

It has been a really eventful few weeks in cycling, Sagan retains the Rainbow Jersey, controversy surrounds the points system for the world tour 2017, Brandon Semenuk wins again with Antoine Bizet pulling the first double back flip at the Red Bull Rampage……and Bradley Wiggins.

The fact is Bradley had permission to use a substance that in normal circumstances would be considered a doping violation. Should the questions be;

  • Was Bradley genuinely ill?
  • Did the doctor falsify or exaggerate his illness?
  • Was the treatment excessive for the symptoms he presented?
  • Should we have a panel of 3 doctors instead of 1 individual who authorises the use of TUE’s?

Has this been a case of a witch hunt that has gone slightly in the wrong direction? The bottom line is rules have not been broken and it is anybody’s opinion as to how far they have been bent.

Should the spotlight be turned up a little more on amateur cycling?

Lots of names over the last 2 years come to mind this week. Robin Townsend, Ciaran Kelly, Gabriel Evans, Kristjan Kumar, Oscar Tovar, Yamile Lugo, Andrew Hastings the list is endless.

All of these cyclists were found to be doping at amateur events. They include ex-continental riders, aspiring pro riders that were in the junior ranks and age-groupers. The entire spectrum is involved.

Have we assumed that being amateurs, they have less incentive to win and fewer reasons to cheat?

Unfortunately we are now in an age of escalating competition for amateur slots in big races such as the Ironman world championship. The fact of the matter is that you have people with money, access to performance enhancers and a type-A personality, and they want to win just as bad as professionals. Is it driven by ego and the desire to feel important?

The talk among many strong leisure cyclists is that they do not want to compete because they feel that it not a level playing field even at the lower levels of cycling. So we leave you with this……

Should we have a sport event where any form of doping is allowed? Let us know what you think.
