Off to Race Across Germany – Closed from Tuesday 27th June – Friday 7th July

“If he’s not on a day off, he’s on his bike”…..that’s Mick for you.

He will be taking part in the Race Across Germany on Friday 30th June.

We know he is really looking forward to it, but we’re fairly sure his “oil light will be flashing” at some point during the 1,100km race. There is 7,500 metres of climbing thrown in for good measure…..so, it will be a sufferfest of sorts by any stretch of the imagination.

Can we also take this opportunity to extend a massive thank you to everybody who has extended their best wishes.

On the starting list for Race Across Germany 2017

We’re feeling super excited here at Bueno Bike Lanzarote, Mick is on the starting list for Race Across Germany 2017!

The race travels 1,100km from Flensburg in North Germany to Garmisch-Partenkirchen on the Austrian border. There is 7,500 metres of climbing over the course of the race, so there’s a proper sufferfest in store for him! So far, there are 19 solo participants, many of whom have lots of ultra distance experience.

The race starts on Friday 30th June.

Departure Time 9.30am from Transition area on the water front in Puerto del Carmen

This is a RECON of the 1st 107km for the IM Lanzarote Bike Leg.
On the day of the event, the cut off time is 2.30pm at the 107km point.

Total distance 157km approx.

Correct knowledge of the course will save you between 12 and 40 minutes on the bike leg!

Are you concerned about missing this cut-off….don’t miss this!
– Strong sportif riders are also welcome to join.
– Average speed will be 20-22kmh
– You will learn about the winds
– We will show you the “sweet spots”, where to push on and save time….there is 12 of them in total!

Last year, one of our recon riders got inside every cut-off by 6 to 15 minutes. He made it because he knew he could!

The infamously windy 2015 Ironman, all our recon participants bettered their estimated bike times when most missed theirs by half an hour…..there was an unusual North, North West wind on the day!

Here’s our list of the big ones

  1. Enroll and finish an Ultra distance bike race exceeding 2,000km
  2. Qualify for RAAM (Race Across America)
  3. Complete a 48hr climbing project on the bike. Target 30,000m of climbing in 48hrs.
  4. Abstain from alcohol (exception: to celebrate completing 1, 2 & 3 above)

We have lots of small things, the usual stuff…..less sugary drinks, less pizza, less chocolate, more fruit & vegetables, more sleep etc.
